Henry Richard van Dongen has been a professional science fiction illustrator since the early 1950s.  His 
work primarily appeared on ASTOUNDING during the 1950s and early 1960s.  He retired for about a 
decade at that point, then came out of retirement for several years during the 1970s, creating a series of 
book covers for publishers such as Ballantine Books and Del Rey Books. He is now retired permanently 
and lives with his wife, Eleanor, in the upper left hand corner of New York.
